October Learning Fun

October brought some adjustments and changes but lots of fun!  Our Tuesday day of extras for the older kids brought lessons in carpentry where the kids made the raised bed frames for our spring garden vermicomposting final project and a gaga ball court for use at gym time.  Our art classes also began with Michelle Garlock from MasterPeace Painting.  The older kids also had a civics lesson on how the government and elections work.

We are looking forward to many exciting Tuesday morning classes and activities this year!

The older kids learned about cells in science and made really neat edible models.  They also germinated bean seeds and studied seeds and early plant growth, George Carver Washington and peanuts, set up the vermicomposting bins, and studied leaves.  Our younger class took a deep dive into stems, leaves, and photosynthesis.

American History continued with lots of project-based learning.  The older students each chose a topic from the early American period and created a museum piece for the younger kids to view.  Their creativity was pretty special.

Our younger students began writing an animal book and have been working on writing skills while learning about their favorite animals. They also have been enjoying poetry.  Our older class read Gentle Ben and engaged in discussion and written responses.

All the students have enjoyed gym and the fitness exercises and games to break up their day and get the wiggles out.

Finally, the younger group enjoyed learning about lines and shapes with paint, paper, scissors, and glue.  They learned about negative and positive space and even did some fall pumpkin and Indian corn crafts.

Overall, October was a month filled with hands on learning fun!
